Thousands of people around the world are being impacted by the coronavirus. Many world citizens in multiple countries are being restricted around their living conditions. The way they interact with one another, the distance allowed to travel and even the actions they take in and around their own communities. It is safe to say it is becoming a global phenomenon. Each country is following strict guidelines to insure their citizens, as well as the rest of the world, are safe and being protected in the best way possible to strengthen the chances of minimal spread. With thousands of cases already emerged, it is extremely important to stay safe, healthy and responsible in these difficult times.
For myself in Austria, the restrictions are coming down like a ton of bricks. Within a 48 hour time period, multiple procedures were put in place to help counter the spread of the virus. These procedures meant no football training or games, no gym or workout sessions to take place and no access to any sports fields to continue individualised training. For me, this was a huge problem. I have always been a very motivated and fitness dominant person. Always wanting to be better than the day before. This includes completing countless amounts of extra gym sessions, fitness sessions and injury prevention programmes to make sure I was and am giving myself the best possible chance to succeed. Without having access to a gym or sports field for individual training caused me more problems than first presented. But this didn't stop me from finding ways to stay on top of my fitness and gym schedules.
The club officials at FC Pinzgau gave myself and other professional players the opportunity to take equipment home with us for the remainder of the time we had to spend at home. So like any young, energetic and eager footballer wanting to get better, I jumped at the chance to access footballs, cones, speed ladders and multiple other resources. This meant I was able to train to some what extent and maintain certain aspects of my game whilst being in quarantine.
For all the people in the world struggling from the disadvantages of the coronavirus, all I have to say is make sure you use the time to stay busy. Find a hobby that you can enjoy from the comforts of your home. Stay active and healthy by completing body weight exercises. By staying positive and using your imagination, any barrier can be broken. Because I don't have access to sports fields, I have been using the parking spaces outside my apartment to train on. Yes, nothing is going to be ideal in the world involving the consequences of coronavirus, but that doesn't mean sitting in a dark room, letting the fear of the virus hinder your lifestyle. Get outside, breath in the fresh air, do some push ups, squats and sit ups.
